Q: What is Novelty in Research?

Detailed Question –
When does the teacher ask questions like “What are the new things in your research?” can I reply with my key questions? What kind of things can be called new things in research?

Answer:

Novelty is a very significant element of research. It is true that, due to the emergence and accessibility of digital technologies that allow products and data sharing, research has advanced tremendously over the past two decades. Consequently, a subject about which little is known or no literature is available can be difficult to locate. There is still a lot of space, however, for growth.

You should do a comprehensive literature search to find out what is understood and what are the holes that need to be explained in order to find novelty in your field of study. There may be subjects that are researched, but results are still conflicting. Studying this will lead to novel leads. Many times, a new study can only mean refuting what is already understood. The novelty will rely largely on your in-depth understanding of the field. Many high-impact journals are now searching for extremely novel knowledge to publish with the growing amount of research output.

Please do a detailed search for literature, therefore, and I am sure you will be able to find the novelty in your field of interest. To explain your doubts about novelty in your particular subject area, you can ask your teacher these questions.
